Strengthening women led ecological justice and human rights movements
Centre de Recherches et d’Appui pour les Alternatives de Développement – Océan Indien or The Center for Research and Support for Development Alternatives – Indian Ocean (CRAAD-OI) supports the strengthening of the movement for ecological justice and human rights led by women and young people in Madagascar. CRAAD-OI’s mission is to promote sustainable development alternatives centered on the realization of human rights, and based on the principles of gender equality, as well as ecological, social and economic justice. It works to implement campaigns and programs on:

- the campaign on the Right to Say No and on the free, informed, prior and ongoing consent of communities in the face of mega-projects in the extractive and agricultural sectors ;
- legal assistance to human rights defenders and environmental activists ;
- emergency assistance to women victims of extreme climatic disasters;
- support for the promotion of food sovereignty for women victims of the impacts of the climate crisis ;
- an ecofeminist alternative development project;
- a research and advocacy project on ecological justice and energy transition;
- a pilot project to reduce rural women’s energy poverty;
- a school of youth activism; and
- an ecology festival integrated into a support project for young artists and the promotion of cultural rights.
