Eastern and Southern Africa Small Scale Farmers Forum Uganda
Promoting seed and food sovereignty
Eastern and Southern Africa Small Scale Farmers Forum (ESAFF) Uganda was registered in 2008 as a chapter of ESAFF which nurtures the participation of smallholder farmers at the grassroots to promote seed and food sovereignty. ESAFF Uganda works extensively to promote agroecology at the grassroots and national level. It demystifies notions that agroecology impoverishes farmers and is inadequate in supporting food sovereignty in Uganda. ESAFF’s main focus areas are:
- Promoting seed and food sovereignty by focusing on the promotion and protection of the right of smallholder farmers and consumers to control food systems, including markets, ecological resources, food cultures, and production modes;
- Movement building by focusing on building a strong smallholder farmer-led movement that influences policy structures and Institutional strengthening of grassroots groups and local infrastructure by working with farmer groups that
subscribe to the district forums that form the national structure of ESAFF; - Agriculture financing by increasing the participation of smallholder farmers in platforms that influence investment in the agricultural sector;
- Economic empowerment through skills development programs as a way to ensure that the livelihoods of smallholder farmers are resilient.
