About the Series

A project of Thousand Currents, Holding our Ground: Voices for Food Sovereignty is a series  about the lives of 13 African farmers.

Between 2017 and 2019, Rudo Chigudu talked with 13 people, listened to their childhoods, challenges, victories and hopes, and their struggles for food sovereignty. These are their stories.

The series was written by Rudo Chigudu and edited by Luam Kidane, Thousand Currents Regional Director for Africa, and Jennifer Lentfer, Thousand Currents Director of Communications. The digital collages of each of the farmers were created by Ethel Tawe (original photographs taken by Charmaine Chitate), the animations in each of the stories are by Richard Musinguzi, and the website design is by Grid Principles.
