Giving Circles

Giving Circles offer people with access to wealth the opportunity to go beyond a one-time contribution. Our Giving Circles program spans a period of six months or more, and is curated to support, challenge, and inspire major donors to not only give more, but to also build long-lasting community and deepen understanding of our role as funders and fundraisers for climate justice movements in the Global South. These customized programs may have both remote and in-person engagement, and are tailored to individual capacities and interests. In the past, participants have:

  • Connected with movement leaders from the Global South to build authentic relationships and hear directly about the most pressing issues of our time;
  • Developed a deeper connection to our shared planetary crises;
  • Understood impactful ways to fund moving forward, with a deeper understanding of global movement ‘ecosystems’;
  • Received group and 1:1 training and coaching to become inspiring fundraisers on behalf of climate justice

We are actively organizing Giving Circles right now! Click here to learn more. Questions? Email Jessie Spector, Thousand Currents’ Director of Donor Organizing, at givingcircles@thousandcurrents.org.

Learning Journey to the Amazon

Join us on a rare journey into the heart of the Brazilian Amazon, where we will begin a week of shared learning with the Indigenous communities, local leaders, and movement builders who are actively shaping the future of climate resilience. This experience, offered exclusively to a small group of philanthropic leaders, will provide unique, experiential insights into the interwoven efforts of caring for the forest, defending territory, and creating models of food, energy, and economic justice that inspires far beyond the region.

Trip dates: June 6-13, 2026

The Academy

The Thousand Currents Academy is a one-of-a-kind training program for grantmakers, individual donors, resource mobilizers, and philanthropic practitioners. If you are committed to learning about social-justice based philanthropic partnerships with communities in the Global South, the Academy is for you! Participation in The Academy will deepen participants’ understanding of funding in the global landscape, and support you to partner with global grassroots groups and movement formations with mutual trust, learning, and accountability.

We’re thrilled to be offering our first-ever Global Academy, hosted in São Paulo, Brazil, from June 21–26, 2026. Learn more and apply today!

Since 2014, we have hosted 15 Academies in the U.S. and Europe with over 260 graduates, and collectively influenced over $10 billion in resources. Our ultimate vision for the Academy is for it to serve as a launchpad for the growing network of graduates to work in creative, collaborative, and courageous ways to boldly trust, listen, and shift resources to Global South movements. Learn more and apply.

If you would like to deepen your understanding of funding global movements, join us at the next Academy! Email Crystal Des-Ogugua, Thousand Currents’ Donor Education Manager, at academy@thousandcurrents.org for more information.

Learning directly

"It was very important for me to come to an Academy, a training like this one, where I could learn firsthand from people doing this important work in different parts of the world and learn directly from them what’s working, what’s not working, what they need from funders."
