Mandy van Deven

Mandy has directed global and regional portfolios for private and family foundations that redistributed $14.5 million in grants and capacity building support to groups in 10 countries that advance gender, racial, economic, and climate justice and build the infrastructure for narrative power. She is currently facilitating the emergence of a community of practice for funders that seek to fortify the narrative infrastructure of global justice movements. With extensive experience in strategy development, impact assessment, field building, philanthropic influencing, and values-based organizational culture and practice, Mandy has designed and implemented innovative, integrated initiatives that center the knowledge, lived experience, and solutions of those with an acute understanding of injustice. Her practice is grounded in authentic relationships and cultivating ecosystems that create the conditions for systems transformation. Through strong, expansive networks, Mandy facilitates trust-based connections and collaborations across sectors and thematic areas to overcome barriers to durable impact. She approaches her work from a place of curiosity, deep listening, experimentation, learning, reflection, and iteration. Mandy is an advisory board member of Puentes and has held leadership roles in several philanthropic initiatives, including Foundation for a Just Society, Nathan Cummings Foundation, Multitudes Foundation, Gender Funders CoLab, Grantmakers for Girls of Color, Critical Minded, and the Human Rights Funders Network. Her formal education is in organizational management and leadership, racial and ethnic inequalities, and intersectional, global feminisms. She has lived and worked in South Asia, Southeast Asia, Latin America, Caribbean, West Africa, Europe, and the United States.
