L’Observatoire Tunisien de l’Economie

Making economic justice accessible to Tunisians

L’Observatoire Tunisien de l’Economie (OTE) was formed in 2013 as an informal network of activists and researchers acting to shift the development model of Tunisia. OTE seeks to democratize who has access to, can understand, and engage with the economic policies of Tunisia as well as make critical economic information available and accessible to its citizens.

OTE’s work focuses on debt and international financial institutions (IFI), trade, investment, energy, environment, public finances and monetary policies. OTE’s current strategic focus entails:

  1. Reducing IFI influence and enhancing policy space for citizen policy influence at the regional level
  2. Democratizing economic issues in order to mobilize more stakeholders and increase outreach at the regional level
  3. Supporting a broad constituency of stakeholders advocating for sustainable and equitable development at local, national, and regional level
  4. Strengthening the network on solidarity and sustainable development issues in North Africa.

OTE supports the politicization of citizens and movements with economic frameworks and policies by promoting independence, active citizen engagement and rigorous and constructive knowledge production.
