Improving marine and fisherfolk life in Côte d'Ivoire

Founded in 2014, La société coopérative simplifiée Walé des Artisans Pêcheurs de Grand-Lahou (SCOOPS WALE) is a collective of 315 artisanal fishers in Grand-Lahou, Côte d’Ivoire. SCOOPS WALE works to protect marine life, improve the livelihoods of fisherfolk and food sovereignty by providing information and training for fishers, purchasing fishing equipment and the promotion of economic activities that allow fishing communities to be more resilient to climate change.

SCOOPS WALES’s most active members are women involved in artisanal fishing, livestock, aquaculture and the protection of mangroves. They are a member of Association ouest africaine pour le développement de la pêche artisanale (ADEPA), which is a member of the Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA).
