Donation Impact
Be a part of the currents of change.
From Nepal to Ghana to Brazil –– Thousand Currents’ movement partners go above and beyond every single day. They fight for dignity, defend their rights, self-determine their needs, and create strategic responses to multiple compounding challenges.
Here’s a snapshot of how our movement partners turn your resources into action:
CLIMATE
In Brazil, the average energy bill for residents is expected to increase by 50% to 70% in the coming years. Movimento dos Atingidos por Barragens (MAB), is working to change this energy model by challenging transnational corporations whe are building damaging hydroelectric plants and dams.
In the last 20 years, MAB has won their communities the right to compensation and resettlement, developed a policy proposal demanding human rights, and organized worker unions to build a People-led Energy Project.
ECONOMY
Nari Chetana Kendra has cultivated one of the largest bases of organized farmers in Nepal, mobilizing tens of thousands of women into dozens of agriculture and credit cooperatives.
The cooperatives collectively manage more than $4.2 million in combined assets, which they use to help members achieve sustainable livelihoods and agricultural production, permaculture, farm management, and much more.
FOOD
In Africa, Nous Sommes la Solution is continuing to curb the expansion of industrial agriculture and deepen agroecology practices across seven countries in West Africa.
Because of their work, tens of thousands of people now have access to locally grown food, training on how to use local vegetation, and education on the harms of industrial agriculture. And, they collaborated with 12 local radio programs across their member countries to disseminate this message.
